Restoring Riverbank Stability Through Tributary Erosion Works
A project we completed last year for Eastleigh Borough Council, was an urgent riverbank stabilisation project to address significant erosion affecting a tributary watercourse and the surrounding land.
Over time, the continuous movement of water had worn away sections of the tributary's banks, resulting in damage and increasing instability along the riverbanks. Left unchecked, this type of erosion can pose a risk to nearby infrastructure, vegetation and adjacent land, while also impacting the long-term health of the watercourse.
The project was designed to prevent further decline and restore stability to the affected areas. Working carefully within the watercourse environment, our team implemented erosion control measures to protect vulnerable sections of the bank and reduce the impact of future water movement.
River and tributary erosion can be a complex challenge, particularly in areas exposed to changing weather patterns and fluctuating water levels. Effective remediation requires a balance between engineering resilience and environmental sensitivity, ensuring that works not only protect the surrounding area but also support the natural function of the watercourse.
Throughout the project, we worked to minimise disruption while delivering a durable solution to help safeguard the site for years to come. By reinforcing the affected sections and addressing the root causes of destruction, the completed works have improved bank stability and reduced the risk of further land loss. We initially applied for two flood risk assessment permits earlier in the year and completed a survey to establish the issues.
This project demonstrates our level of expertise in delivering civil engineering and environmental improvement works across challenging terrain and sensitive locations. From erosion control and riverbank stabilisation to drainage and infrastructure projects, our team provides practical solutions that protect assets, enhance resilience and support the long-term sustainability of the surrounding environment.
